Come December 2013, Nigeria will Re-introduce Smaller Denomination Notes in Paper form instead of Polymer - CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on Friday said that the new smaller denomination notes that will come in paper form would be in circulation before December.

Mr Tunde Lemo, Deputy Governor, Operations, said this while briefing newsmen on the sideline of the ongoing Annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

The smaller notes are N5, N10, N20 and N50 notes.

“The smaller denomination notes are being supplied by the printers and before December, you will no longer see tattered notes all over. “As I said, I have apologised to Nigerians that the reason we had old notes that are still in circulation was because of the issues around Project Cure.

Femi Kuti speaks on being sexually active at 50

When asked in an interview with Vanguard about the general perception that he was more sexually active at 50, Femi kuti said..
That is not true, I am no more sexually active. When you see a beautiful woman, when you reach my age and you have responsibility like myself, you will know what I am talking about. Before now, as a young man, you would want to go after her. There are many nights I go and sleep alone not because I don’t have girlfriends or want a girlfriend, when I think of the responsibility I have in my life, I will immediately have a rethink.
That is not true, I am no more sexually active. When you see a beautiful woman, when you

The wife said with the way things are going, she may not live long...
“Since the day I caught my husband in our neighbour’s bedroom, he has been threatening to kill me. I caught him hiding behind the door of our neighbour’s bedroom, when I went there to pick my purse that I forgot in the woman's room earlier that day.

“Our neighbour, a 60-year-old woman and I are very close; I enter her flat anytime of the day. On that fateful day, I knocked at her door to pick my purse. I could not enter because she had locked the door from

Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg Buys four of his Neighbours' Houses For Privacy

Facebook Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg just made an unusual purchase. Well, four purchases.

Facebook's billionaire founder bought four homes surrounding his current home near Palo Alto, Mercury News reports. The houses cost him more than $30 million, including one 2,600 square-foot home that cost $14 million. (His own home is twice as large at 5,000 square-feet and cost half as much.)

Larry Page made a similar move a few years ago so he could build a massive, 6,000-square-foot mansion. But Zuckerberg's reason is different. He doesn't want to live in excess, he just wants a little privacy.

Zuckerberg reportedly took action after he learned that a developer wanted to purchase one of his neighbor's homes and use the fact that Zuckerberg lived close by as a marketing tactic. He started purchasing the homes last December. Zuckerberg will lease the four homes he just bought back to its current

Femi-Fani-Kayode

Why did Reuben Abati, known before his present assignment as a master of restraint, waste an emotional tweet complete with exclamation mark on this man? ASUU Made Me Take Part In Project Fame - Project Fame Season 6 Winner, Olawale Ojo

Olawale Ayodele Ojo, winner of the MTN Project Fame (Season 6), in a recent interview about his experience in the competition and other issues:

Shortly after you were announced winner of the MTN project Fame, you said your mind was still blank to express how you felt. It is about 48 hours now, so how are you feeling?
I feel blessed. I feel that everything around just worked for me this season because I didn’t really expect to come out as the winner this season. It’s about God because I don’t believe there is something I did that others didn’t do. It was the grace of God and the people that voted for me. I’m really grateful to all the people that believed in me and voted. I wouldn’t have won without them. Basically, I feel this is God’s grace because at a point in the competition, I was almost evicted, so when you look at everything from beginning to the end, you will realise that it is God’s grace.
If you didn’t envisage winning the competition, what was your plan when you registered to participate at the auditions?
I came up to register when ASUU was on strike, and this was my first time to participate in a music competition. I didn’t really come with too much determination, but anywhere I find myself, I always try to

Will you be collaborating with any musicians in the near future?
Hopefully, I will be collaborating with a few musicians in the near future. I am currently begging a lot of them now. Since they have now passed my level, I want them to pull me up to theirs but them never answer me yet. Let’s see how the Nigerian music industry supports their own. At the end of the day though, if they don’t support me, I guess it’s just between me and my God then. And, my God is one who makes a way where it seems to be no way.
Who does Maheeda find sexy?
I think that Clarence Peters and Don Jazzy are really hot. I like the kind of guy that talks less

"My music will take me very far, not showing skin" - Victoria Kimani

The Chocolate City Kenyan artiste ,Victoria Kimani opened up on her thoughts on nudity ..
Excerpts from Nigerian Tribune
What are your views on nudity?

We were born naked, then we realised that we were naked. In some villages around the world, nudity is normal; in a religious society, nudity of any kind is a sin. So, nudity is a personal preference and sometimes a Godly calling. I believe there’s nothing wrong with nudity. It’s the evil and sinful thoughts that people think that need to be controlled.
How far can you go with showing your skin as far as your music is concerned?
My music will take me very far, not showing skin. That can only take you so far.

France Would Have Destroyed Nigeria Over Bakassi - Donald Duke

Donald Duke

Former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke, yesterday disclosed that France threatened to level Nigeria if the country had gone to war with Cameroun over the Bakassi Peninsula.

Speaking at the 60th birthday lecture in honour of Justice Charles Archibong (rtd) held in Lagos, Duke said any attempt to ignore the International Court of Justice, ICJ, judgement would have been disastrous for Nigeria. He said: "France would have wiped us out. Cameroun is still a protectorate of France and has a defence pact with France. And France is duty bound to honour that pact, even though it has a lot of investments in Nigeria.

"The French President made it clear to us that it has put on alert its military and showed us the entire position of our military and exactly where we were and our daily movements.

"If we engaged Cameroun in war, France would have wiped us out. We tried to liaise with the Chinese and

DELE MOMODU: If you want to know why many people love Governor Amaechi, this is it

If you want to know why many people love Governor Amaechi, this is it:

Fellow Nigerians, how was your week? I spent three full nights and half a day of mine exploring thelegendary Garden City, otherwise known as Port Harcourt in real name. The last time I had such an opportunity was ten years ago, when Dr Peter Odili was still Governor and Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi was the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. A lot of water has since passed under the bridge and the baton of power has changed in a most dramatic fashion.

I’m quite familiar with Port Harcourt which like most cities in Nigeria lost its old glory, glamour and colour to the vagaries and vicissitudes of power in the hands of our politicians. The battle for the jugular of the oil-rich state has culminated in the cataclysmic collapse of its original glint and attraction.

While I will not apportion blame, I must say that it has become the unenviable plight of most Governors in Nigeria today to carry the heavy burden of our gross underdevelopment in every sphere of human existence.

'Most Nigerian men aren’t romantic' — Nollywood Actress, Chelsea Eze

Nollywood actress, Chelsea Eze, tells Ademola Olonilua about her career and love life:

Asides movies what do you have a passion for?
I have a passion for movie production and singing. As someone in the arts, it is necessary to master a few other things relating to the arts, for instance other languages, martial arts, singing  and many more. So yes, I think singing would come in handy for me as an actress at some point.
Would you say you are a better singer than an actress?
I can’t really say. In fact,I wouldn’t know.
We have seen actresses delving into music, is such in your future plans?
It is not a Plan B per se. It is just an area I think I might want to explore.
If you were to choose a male Nigerian singer to do collaboration with, who would you choose?
I certainly would choose M.I and it is because I like his versatility. I like soulful music, techno and even country music. But I have no streamlined genre for now.
How has it been for a fast rising actress like you in the industry?
It has been quite a journey. There have been so many ups and downs, which are expected but in all, I give

US Army plans ‘Iron Man’ Armor for it's Soldiers

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Army researchers are working on building hi-tech body armor that would give soldiers “superhuman strength” in a real-life version of the suit featured in “Iron Man” films.

The blueprint for the “revolutionary” Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS) would include an exoskeleton to allow a soldier to carry heavy equipment, built-in computing power, beefed up protection to stop bullets and a system to monitor vital signs, officials said.

“Some of the potential technologies planned for TALOS research and development include advanced armor, situational awareness, command and control computers, power management systems, and enhanced mobility exoskeletons,” according to a US Army statement issued last month.

ASUU STRIKE: Why Federal Government Implemented The ‘No Work, No Pay’ Directive

The Federal government revealed on Friday why it implemented the ‘no work-no pay’ policy against the striking university lecturers.
Speaking in defence of the Federal government directive, the NUC, spokesman said the commission was only applying extant laws.
Also speaking on the matter, the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations of the NUC, Ibrahim Yakasai, said the directive was not a policy but a law that affects all sectors of the economy, adding that it had been in the constitution for a long time.
“It’s a law in this country that if you don’t work you will not get paid. But the government was magnanimous enough to pay their salaries for a month or two when they started the strike. After everything that has been done, (the lecturers) don’t want to go back to work; so, the law must be applied.
“Let’s watch and see how far they can go with this strike. In any case, why would anyone want to pay someone that is not working? Should they even have accepted the salaries in the first instance? In fact, what

At least 120 people are said to have been saved, but dozens of bodies have been reportedly spotted in the water.
Italy's coast guard and Maltese officials said the boat capsized about 120 km off Lampedusa. The vessel was initially spotted by the Maltese air force which then requested Italy's help.
The Maltese authorities are co-ordinating the operation in the country's territorial waters.
27 people officially confirmed dead at the moment, while the first reports in Italian media said that the death toll reached 50 people. Many women and children are expected to be among the victims.
However, official confirmation on the number of the deceased as well as their nationalites is awaited.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE: President Jonathan’s Greek gift and the true believers - By Femi Fani-Kayode

Femi-Fani-Kayode

Anything short of this is fake. It is nothing more than a palliative. It is a ”made in China” copy of the original. If you take the ”sovereign” out of the ”national conference” it is like taking the ham out of a ham sandwich. All you will have left is a talk shop whose recommendations will eventually be tossed into the dustbin by both the Federal Government and the National Assembly.
Permit me to begin this contribution with the words of Senator Femi Okurounmu who is the Chairman of the President’s Advisory Committee on the National Conference. In the February 12 edition of the National Mirror Newspaper, he said the following about President Goodluck Jonathan-
“Jonathan has betrayed the goodwill of the Yoruba. The man doesn’t seem to have a clue about anything. First, he has no clue about governance- it appears as if he does not even have any slightest idea of what he wants to do. He never thought of becoming President and what he would do as President. He was just talking of transformation and I don’t even think he knows the meaning of transformation. The man is just being pushed around everywhere and to anywhere. The only thing he understands is that he wants to make money and he is making a lot of it. And because he wants to make money, he cannot tell people not to make money when they are making their own. So a lot of people around him are making money and he cannot do

PDP CRISIS: Double blow for ‘New PDP’ as INEC withholds official recognition

The attempt by the new faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Abubakar Kawu Baraje to seek official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been shot down.
The “New PDP’ received a major blow after its attempts to be heralded as the original and official PDP yielded undesirable results. It was a two-pronged defeat for Baraje’s PDP as they were turned down by INEC and also defeated in court by Bamanga Tukur’s PDP.
INEC stood solidly behind Tukur’s faction of the PDP as it said that all processes and appointments made by the original PDP were witnessed and supported by it (INEC) including the controversial appointment of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as National Chairman which the electoral body declared valid.
Vanguard reports:
INEC’s clarification followed a letter written by the National Secretary of the New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, asking the commission to recognize Baraje and members of his National Working Committee as the valid leaders of the party.
