The minister of state for petroleum resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has described the nation’s importation of petroleum products as a fraud and must be put to an end if the nation was to make progress in the oil and gas sector.

Zimbabwe Bans The Beating Of Children


Zimbabwe's High Court has outlawed corporal punishment for children both at school and in the home. The ruling comes after a parent complained that her child in grade one, a class for six-year-olds, had deep bruises after a beating by a teacher.

Linah Pfungwa said her daughter had been punished for failing to have her reading book signed by guardians as proof she had done her homework.

Syrian Army 'Recaptures' Ancient City Of Palmyra From Islamic State


The Syrian Army says it has recaptured the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State. The army said the move was achieved with help from allied forces and Russian air strikes.

The army and allied forces advanced inside Palmyra on Thursday after Islamic State pulled its fighters out of the city, a war monitoring group said.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin that the Syrian city of Palmyra has been fully recaptured from Islamic State militants, the RIA news agency reported, citing Kremlin

EFCC Indicts 202 INEC Staff For Fraud


The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed the indictment of 202 of its staff, accused of benefitting from N23 billion bribery allegedly facilitated by former minister for petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Maduekwe, ahead of the 2015 elections.

In a statement on Wednesday, INEC said the staff “were accused of certain infractions”, and that they were based in 14 States.

Katsina Governor Bans Unlawful Gathering


Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has signed an order banning any form of unlawful assembly in any part of the state. The ban was announced yesterday in Katsina in a statement by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Abdu Labaran.

Audu Maikori will be prosecuted for his false tweet on Southern Kaduna killings- Nasir El-Rufai says (VIDEO)


Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, says music executive, Audu Maikori, will be prosecuted over his false tweets on Southern Kaduna attack. Maikori was arrested on February 17th for tweeting that five students of the College of Education, GidanWaya in Kaduna state, were ambushed and killed by herdsmen while on their way back to school yesterday January 22nd, a claim that he later found out to be false and apologised. Police in Thailand on Thursday morning, March 2nd, hauled off 40 African prostitutes off the streets in efforts to clean up Pattaya's image.

Boko Haram Suspect Arrested With N1.3m Cash, As Another Flees Camp


Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, who was in possession of N1,264,000 and CFA 160,000 cash in the Banki area of Borno State.

Punch gathered that the suspect, identified as Ari Arimaye, who said he came from Bula-Urami village, was apprehended by troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole when he was about to enter the Internally Displaced Persons camp in the area.

Liberia in tears as young and promising musician, Quincy B dies in fatal car crash (PHOTOS)


Liberia has been thrown into mourning following the death of promising recording artist, Quincy L.  Burrowes, fondly called Quincy B, in a ghastly motor accident in the early hours of Friday, March 3rd.

The talented singer was returning from a gig at Anglers bar and restaurant when his car lost control and summersaulted  opposite the Monrovia City Hall. Two of his colleagues, who were in the car suffered broken legs while others went unscathed. His body has been moved to a funeral home. More
