PDP keeps dribbling me, 17 years after designing its umbrella logo – Gbenga Amobonye

PDP Chairman, Adamu Muazu
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, in one of the on-going campaign rallies for this year’s general elections, told on excited crowd that the party will continue to do well if it refrains from the habit of using and dumping its members. To situate this statement in its proper context, until 1998, there was no name like the PDP.

The name became famous, perhaps than other parties, because it was the party of choice when it was founded to usher in the new political dispensation in 1999. The name, however, is not as popular as its logo, the umbrella. The party is so popular that sometimes, only its logo would suffice. The now celebrated logo was designed by a journalist, Gbenga Amobonye.

Gbenga Amobonye
However, Amobonye’s effort to the success of the party today appears an oversight as some have suggested. Thunder does not strike on the same spot twice. If after repeated efforts to get the party’s

Boko Haram Planned To Attack Whole Country – President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said various attacks by Boko Haram in Abuja were planned to extend to parts of the country with the intention of bringing down the nation.

He stated this when he attended the revival service of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement at its headquarters in Ijesha, Lagos.

“The idea of the group was to start from the centre of the country and then move to bring the whole country down,’’ Jonathan said.

He listed the United Nation’s building, Police Headquarters, Army barracks market and Nyanya Motor Park as some of the places the terrorist organisation attacked in the federal capital.

He, however, said that the efforts of the Federal Government had curtailed the spread of the attacks to other

OPINION: If service chiefs can't give Security for Polls, they should resign

One year and one month later, and under his very watch, Boko Haram has become savagely audacious. The embarrassing failure of CDS Alex Badeh and Jonathan’s government has become an excuse to mess with the country’s future, making us look like a land of fools and idiots.

In decent countries Badeh, all the service chiefs and indeed Jonathan, their appointor, would have resigned with their tails between their legs.

They would have publicly apologised for the grief they have brought upon the nation through their incompetence. They would have repented for the shame of Nigeria, once Africa’s giant, now reduced to looking to Chad and Cameroon and Niger Republic for salvation from Boko Haram.

They would have been afraid to retain their positions much less contemplate using their failure to press for the

Police Discovers 19 Heavyweight Bombs In Adamawa, Foils Plans To Bomb Bridges

The Police in Adamawa State have averted what could have been a massive bomb attack as operatives defused 19 high-caliber Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) buried in a bush near Yola, the state capital.

The IEDs could have destroyed a 10-storey building and could wreak havoc within a 200 meter radius, the state police chief, Adaji Gabriel, said Friday.
Adamawa is one of the north eastern states worst affected by Boko Haram insurgents.

21 INEC Resident Commissioners Reject Postponement Of Elections - Premium Times

Twenty one Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have rejected a proposal to postpone Nigeria’s general elections billed for February 14 and 28.

In a vote conducted Saturday by the INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, after he met with political parties and the civil society, 21 RECs said the elections should continue as planned while 16 others voted in support of a reschedule.

Nigeria has 37 RECs, each for a state and the Federal Capital, Abuja.

The outcome of the vote came as Nigerians await INEC’s decision on whether the elections are moved or not.

Civil Society leaders said Mr. Jega had told them at their meeting that the commission was under pressure to postpone the polls after all security agencies, including the military and the police, warned that they will only support polls held at least six weeks after the current dates.

Presidency Lambasts Economist Magazine For 'Malicious' Writeup On Jonathan

The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed an editorial by a UK-based magazine, Economist, in which the paper described the president as a failed leader and endorsed Muhammadu Buhari, his chief rival in the forthcoming elections.
According to the paper, while President Jonathan has utterly failed as the president, with no capacity to tackle growing insurgency and widespread corruption, Buhari is a former dictator with blood on his hands. But not withstanding it is better to vote for a dictator than a failed president, the paper said.
However in a press statement signed by Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the president on Media & Publicity, the presidency noted that the remarks by the magazine is baseless, jaundiced and rather malicious.
The statement argued that though the magazine may pretend it’s not aware of the president’s transformation of the country in the last six years, it’s brash editorial is not enough to deceive voting Nigerians, who have witnessed the transformation themselves: “Nigerians, unlike the magazine’s opinion writers, will actually vote

Ateke Tom is a former militant leader in the Niger Delta..In an interview with Punch, he opened up on why they were different from Boko Hram and should not be labelled terrorists.

How is life as a repentant militant?
Life here is better than the life I once lived in the creeks because I now enjoy free movement and I see my family. I do businesses and I’m free to embark on other gainful ventures outside the creeks. In the creeks, we didn’t use to drive cars, but outside the creeks where we are now leading a normal life, we drive our cars and do other things that will benefit us and the society at large. So, we are comfortable outside the creeks.
What was life like in the creeks?
It was tough there. We were bitten by mosquitoes, but the difference then was that we were not

51-Year-Old Nigerian Man Bought As A Toy By A Rich White Kid (Pictured)

The Toy, a popular 80s movie, was about a spoiled rich white kid who buys a black man (played by Richard Pryor). Now there is a real life story: Wallace Turnquist purchased Ezekiel Akpu-nku from Nigeria as a playmate and servant for this 13-year-old son, Skyler.

“Last year I took Sky on a hunting safari to Africa and he was delighted by the African people,” Wallace Turnquist told WSB-TV. “How funny they were, how they were always smiling and so eager to please. At first he just wanted to take one, but I told him kidnapping was illegal. So instead, I bought him one.”

Since slavery and human trafficking are illegal, Turnquist gave Ezekiel a five year employment contract that pays $1,000 per year plus room/board, one day off per month and unlimited snacks. Ezekiel’s contract states that he must do whatever Skyler tells him to do so long as it is not illegal.

“This one time I made him stand on one foot for the entire day,” Skyler Turnquist said. “I also made him eat a

Its A Disgrace For Neighbours To Join Boko Haram Fight - Buhari

Presidential flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is appalled that neighbouring Chad and Cameroun are turning out to be more successful at the battle front against Boko Haram than Nigeria.

Nigeria’s poor performance,he says,is a disgrace.

“It’s a big disgrace for Nigeria. It is now Cameroon and Chad fighting the insurgency more than Nigeria. We will build the capacity and Nigeria should be able to secure its territorial integrity,” Buhari told Reuters.

Troops from neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon, all much smaller and poorer than Nigeria, have been battling the terrorists who have seized territory in Borno State.

Niger Republic said yesterday its troops killed 109 Boko Haram fighters in an attempted attack on Bosso close to the border with Nigeria.
